Newhouse looking to hire first-ever technology dean

Syracuse University is currently looking to hire a full-time Assistant Dean and Director of Information Technology to work in the S.I Newhouse School of Public Communications, according to a listing on EDUCAUSE’s website, a non-profit association that deals with technology in education.

The Assistant Dean for Technology would report directly to Dean Lorraine Branham of the Newhouse School and would be responsible for determining the technology needs of the school. Such duties would include developing a technology infrastructure that supports teaching, exploration, learning, research, community engagement and administrative operations, according to the job listing.
The individual who holds this position would also need to manage the technology department’s operating budget and would work with the Academic Resources Committee to discuss annual expenses of other various technology funds, according to the listing.
The school is looking for someone with a bachelor’s or master’s degree and at least 8 years of experience in a leadership position directing IT projects, staff and technology, according to the listing.
Other specific qualifications included in the listing are knowledge of Active Directory, virtualization, Linux, Windows, Mac OS, digital asset management, storage, networking, videoconferencing, SharePoint, Content Management, web development, audio and video editing and digital media production.
