UPDATED: April 7, 12:21 a.m.

A 2009 Syracuse University alumnus was wounded in the Fort Hood shooting Wednesday.

Maj. Patrick Miller is one of 16 people injured in a shooting at the Killeen, Texas military post. Four people, including the shooter, have also been confirmed dead, Fort Hood reported April 2.

In an April 3 statement, Chancellor Kent Syverud said the SU community’s thoughts are with Miller and his family in the days following the shooting.

“We will keep Major Miller in our thoughts and prayers in the days ahead and hope for his full and speedy recovery,” he said.

Miller’s mother, Carole, posted on Twitter about the incident April 2, asking people to pray for her son.

“My son was one of the people shot. Please say some prayers,” she said.

Miller is from Alleghany, a town that is three hours southwest of Syracuse, according to an April 3 Post-Standard article. He was enrolled in the Department of Defense Comptroller Program.
