The Office of Disability Services recognizes accomplished career of retiring staff member
George Irwin, Coordinator of Alternate Format for the Office of Disability Services (ODS) is retiring after a long and industrious career at Syracuse University. George first began working at the university in 2002 as a counselor. He moved into the Coordinator of Alternate Format position in 2007 and has been in that position ever since. George has a MS in Human Services/Counseling from SUNY Oswego and earned a second MS in Instructional Design, Development and Evaluation from Syracuse University in 2011. George was a runner up for the Chancellor’s Medal in 2004 for his work overseeing a project to create a campus accessibility map. George has been a longtime member of the NYS Disability Services Council and on the Technology Committee within that organization. Many consult him on technology issues and in fact, he has come to be known on campus as the go-to person when anyone is stuck with an accessibility and/or technology concern.
George lives in Pulaski, New York and despite the snowy travel during the upstate New York winters, is usually the first one in the office every day. We’re sure he will not miss that commute but we will miss him here at ODS.
