A proposal is pending to take down the buildings at 727 S. Crouse Ave., which currently house Chuck's and Funk n' Waffles, and construct an 8-story "mixed use building" in its place.

A mix of current and former Syracuse University students began taking to Twitter Tuesday to share their dismay over the possible demolition of  the campus favorite Chuck’s Cafe after the Daily Orange reported on a proposal to replace the bar with a mix of residential and retail businesses.

The proposal by real estate development firm BLVD Equities will need to be approved by  the Syracuse City Planning Commission, which is planning to take the proposal to a vote during its next meeting on Feb. 6.

The demolishment would take down the buildings at 727 S. Crouse Ave., which currently house Chuck’s and Funk n’ Waffles, and would replace the structure with an 8-story “mixed use building.”

Though Jacqueline Jones, a lawyer for Chuck’s, said the bar is “ready and willing” to move forward with the proposal at the city planning hearing Tuesday evening, some SU community members are not ready to let the campus favorite go. Some people on Twitter have even called to #SaveChucks while alums panicked and reminisced over the bar as a campus “landmark.”
