Michael Frasciello will lead University with an extensive background in online learning.

The former director of online learning at the College of Engineering and Computer Science is now the interim dean of University College, Syracuse University has announced.

Michael Frasciello, a 10-year veteran of the Air Force, will take over the position that was vacated by Bea Gonazlez in December. His transition will take place over the next two months, per an SU News release.

“As someone who keenly understands the role of continuing adult education and knows the intricacies and growing impact of online learning, Michael is highly experienced to shepherd University College as it continues to evolve and grow to meet the needs of students,” said Michael Haynie, vice chancellor for strategic initiatives and innovations who oversees University College, in the release.

Frasciello has worked in various positions at SU since 2000. He was first the instructional programs director, then assistant dean of online learning and director of information systems at University College. In 2013 he was appointed to his position in the College of Engineering.

Also a professional writing instructor with the College of Arts and Sciences and an adjunct instructor in ECS, Frasciello has also worked directly alongside students.

“I truly value and personally understand the role that lifelong learning can play in transforming someone’s life,” Frasciello said in the release. “With the emphasis on technology in the changing face of higher education, it is especially critical to be focused on what that means for our students, both current and future students.”

Frasciello earned his doctorate of philosophy in composition and cultural rhetoric from SU.
