Delta Kappa Alpha responds to Theta Tau video

In light of recent events, the Omicron chapter of Delta Kappa Alpha at Syracuse University wants to stand in solidarity with the Recognize US SU movement and the students of Syracuse who are affected by the video. As a community of storytellers, we understand that language and the meaning behind our words is important. We stand with the students of Syracuse who feel angry and hurt. We feel the same and we’re with you.

We recognize that we are part of the Professional Fraternity Council that housed Theta Tau before their suspension, but we condemn the views and ideas expressed by Theta Tau. We don’t stand for bigotry, racism, sexism, anti-Semitism, ableism or any of the behavior seen in the recently released video. We don’t condone hazing, nor would we ever want to create an environment where such bigotry is tolerated. The type of behavior exhibited is unwelcome and unacceptable both on our campus and in any community. We need to hold each other accountable for our conduct.

We’re proud of who we are, but we aren’t proud of the deeply flawed Greek system we’re a part of. This goes beyond Theta Tau and SU Greek life. DKA has had and will continue to have conversations about diversity and inclusion in our industry and community, and we encourage all Greek life to do the same. We’re in full support of the all-Greek audit. We’re confident in our members and our organization’s values and ready to make change.

Sincerely,

Delta Kappa Alpha Omicron Chapter
