Emily Hawryschuk leads Syracuse in goals and points, top-20 in the nation.

For the second-straight season, Emily Hawryschuk was named to the first-team All-ACC team on Tuesday. Syracuse midfielder Mary Rahal and defenders Kerry Defliese and Sarah Cooper were named to the second team.

Hawryschuk, a junior attack, is currently top-20 in goals and points in the nation. During one stretch of the season, Hawryschuk recorded four or more goals for eight consecutive games. This season, she’s recorded less than three points in only one of Syracuse’s (14-3, 5-2 Atlantic Coast) 17 contests.

The junior’s biggest moment of the season came against then-No. 4 Northwestern. After recording three goals in the first half, Hawryschuk went stagnant as she was face-guarded and double teamed. But after a Megan Carney goal tied the game at 14-14 and NU turned over its opening possession in overtime, Hawryschuk scored the game-winner in the Carrier Dome.

On the second team for the first time in her SU career, Rahal started every game for the Orange and recorded 30 points, including 18 goals. In the middle, she recorded a career-high 23 ground balls in 2019 as a redshirt junior.

Defliese, who is on the second team for the second time in her career, recorded career-highs in caused turnovers (23) and ground balls (25). Cooper is the only freshman on any All-ACC list, and she’s caused five turnovers in a game twice this season. The two highlight a defense that allows a little over 10 goals a game.

The Orange begin the ACC tournament on Wednesday at 2 p.m. when they take on No. 5-seed Virginia in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
