Syracuse and Georgetown will renew their long-time rivalry next season, per a report from Jon Rothstein. Rothstein reported that SU will play the Hoyas in Washington, D.C., in the 2019-20 season and in the Carrier Dome in 2020-21.

The Orange and Hoyas became rivals in the Big East after both being founding members of the conference in 1979. Georgetown remains in the Big East and has played Syracuse in each of the last four years even though SU now competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Orange hold a 51-43 edge in the all-time series.

Syracuse won, 72-71, hosting Georgetown on Dec. 8, 2018. Tyus Battle hit the game-winner with about 1.5 seconds remaining on the clock.

There was some uncertainty from SU head coach Jim Boeheim after the last meeting against Georgetown as to whether the series would continue when the ACC’s schedule expanded from 18 to 20 games. But it appears the 94-game series that dates back to 1930 will have at least two more contests.

Syracuse’s reported nonconference slate next year already includes Bucknell, Colgate, Cornell and two opponents at the 2019 NIT Season Tip-Off. Those two games at Barclays Center will be against either Penn State, Oklahoma State or Ole Miss. SU will also play two home games as part of the NIT Season Tip-Off, although those opponents have yet to be announced. That leaves three games out of the 11 expected Syracuse nonconference games yet to be determined.

The Orange open the 2019-20 season at home in the Carrier Dome with a conference game against defending national champion Virginia.
