Buddy Boeheim received the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Player of the Week award. He’s the first Syracuse men’s basketball player to receive a weekly award this season.
The honor comes after Buddy posted 25 points in SU’s loss to Pittsburgh on Tuesday, and then a season-high 30 points on Saturday in the win over Wake Forest. The latter performance was one point short of Buddy’s career-high.
Buddy also had seven assists in the win over the Demon Deacons, the second-highest total of his career. He added five rebounds and three steals, moving into 19th on SU’s all-time scorers list.
“Buddy hit a hot streak there, and we just kept getting him the ball,” head coach Jim Boeheim said after the Wake Forest game.
Buddy leads in the Orange in minutes per game (37.7) and points per game (19.4). He ranks 10th in the nation in percentage of minutes played (92.6% of Syracuse’s minutes).
Against the Demon Deacons, he knocked down a season-high six 3-pointers. Syracuse bounced back from a difficult loss with a commanding 22-point win in front of the largest crowd in college basketball this season.
“It felt like I was getting to my spots,” Buddy said after the win. “I felt like we were moving well. Our offense got a lot better as the game went on, but the biggest key was defense.”
Syracuse plays NC State on the road on Wednesday night before returning home to face Louisville on Saturday.
