Syracuse men’s lacrosse fell five spots in the weekly Inside Lacrosse rankings after its 20-11 loss to No. 2 Virginia. The Orange now sit at No. 14 in the third week of the poll.

The ranking is Syracuse’s lowest in almost three years. The Orange fell to No. 14 on March 4, 2019, after a 15-14 overtime loss to Virginia in their Atlantic Coast Conference opener. Syracuse finished 9-5 and made a first-round NCAA Tournament exit that season.

Syracuse was ranked No. 12 in this year’s preseason poll before climbing three spots after a blowout win over Holy Cross. But since, the Orange have had a four-goal loss to No. 1 Maryland and a nine-goal defeat to the Cavaliers. SU has the highest strength of schedule in the country, according to Lacrosse Reference.

Following back-to-back contests against the top two teams in the nation, Syracuse will return home to play No. 12 Army on Wednesday and Hobart on Sunday. The Black Knights moved up three spots in this week’s rankings after an 18-4 win over New Jersey Institute of Technology last weekend.

Syracuse is the only ACC team outside the top 10 in this week’s rankings.
