In the final week of the regular season, Syracuse’s track and field team traveled to Cornell to compete in the Marc Deneault Invitational.

The first event of the day was the 60m hurdles. On the women’s side both CJ Fox and Kirstyn Schechter came in second and third, respectively, with final times of 9.05 seconds and 9.22. Sheridan McGadden also ran the first heat of the event and came in at 9.93 seconds, which was not enough to qualify for the final round by a hundredth of a second.

On the men’s side, Syracuse’s only runner David Peters placed second with a final time of 8.28. Xayvion Perkins also ran and placed ninth (8.70) in the preliminary round and missed the final round by a slim margin as well, just 0.02 seconds behind the cut.

In the women’s mile, all three Syracuse runners placed inside the top 10 with two inside the top three. Sophia Jacobs-Townsley placed first amongst Syracuse runners coming in second at 5:03.93. Following Jacobs-Townsley was Caroline Kirby who came in third at 5:14.62. Rounding out the women’s side for Syracuse was Bearett Tarris in eighth at 5:24.77. On the men’s side, Patrick Malone placed 14th at 4:34.81 and Matthew Dragon came in right behind him at 4:36.23.

Next up was the 500m, where Mariana McManus placed third coming in at 1:25.49. Following this event was the 400m, Perkins was the only Syracuse runner in this race on both the men’s and women’s side placing sixth in at 52.01.

Shortly after the 400m was the 1000m where Syracuse runners Juliette Keller and Bethany Steiner swept the race coming in first (3:00.69) and second (3:03.63), respectively.

The meet ended with another clean sweep in the women’s 3000m where Emily Nugent placed first among 20 competitors coming in at 10:30.86. Following her by under a second was Maddie Heintz in second at 10:31.60.
