Syracuse men’s rowing has hired Kevin Hinkle as an assistant coach, the program announced Friday. Hinkle spent the last two years as an assistant coach at the University of San Diego, helping guide the Toreros to two top-three finishes at the Head of the Charles regatta.

In college, Hinkle was a two-time First Team All-American at the University of Michigan, leading the Wolverines to three ACRA National Championships. He then represented the United States in the men’s 8+ at the 2018 World University Rowing Championships. After graduating from Michigan, Hinkle rowed at Newcastle University in England, acting as a vice captain.

Hinkle’s coaching career began at Skyline High School (Michigan) as an assistant men’s varsity rowing coach. In his last stop before moving to San Diego, Hinkle mentored both middle and high school boys for the Saratoga Rowing Association in Saratoga Springs, New York.

“We are very excited to have Kevin joining our coaching staff,” Syracuse head coach Dave Reischman said in a press release. “His career as both a rower and coach has been spent in programs that stand out due to their competitive success and positive team cultures.”

Hinkle will join Reischman and fellow assistant coaches Connor Walters and Miles Hagmeyer on the Orange’s 2024-25 coaching staff. SU looks to improve on last year’s eighth-place finish at the IRA National Championship.
