Syracuse wide receiver Jackson Meeks, defensive back Devin Grant and right tackle Savion Washington have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Players of the Week, the conference announced Monday. The three were acknowledged for their performances in SU’s 42-38 upset victory over Miami Saturday.
Meeks recorded seven receptions for 110 yards, including two pivotal touchdowns to help the Orange come back from a 21-0 deficit. On the first, Meeks high-pointed a ball in the left corner of the end zone, cutting the Hurricanes’ lead to 21-14. He later caught a slant pass on the left side for nine yards, tying the game at 28-28.
The Georgia transfer finished his only season at SU with a team-high 911 receiving yards on 73 receptions and seven touchdowns.
Grant, a safety, made the play of the game. Late in the third quarter, Miami wide receiver Xavier Restrepo caught a screen pass and ran for five yards. Before Restrepo went down, Grant punched the ball out. It bounced off the turf and directly into his hands. He darted the other way for a 56-yard scoop and score, giving Syracuse a 35-28 lead, its first of the game. Grant finished the game with five total tackles.
The Buffalo transfer’s 2024 regular season ended with 51 tackles, two sacks, three forced fumbles and an interception. SU head coach Fran Brown revealed postgame Saturday that Grant has been playing on a torn MCL most of the year.
Washington earned Offensive Lineman of the Week after playing 74 total snaps. He graded at an 85.8 pass-blocking grade, per Pro Football Focus, helping Kyle McCord stay clean most of the day.
The three accomplishments mark Syracuse’s 12th, 13th and 14th players to earn ACC weekly honors in 2024. Marlowe Wax first earned the honor after his Week 1 performance, while McCord and left tackle Da’Metrius Weatherspoon won weekly awards following SU’s Week 2 win over then-No. 23 Georgia Tech. Meeks was named the conference’s Wide Receiver of the Week after a big day versus Holy Cross.
LeQuint Allen Jr. and edge rusher Fadil Diggs earned honors after SU’s overtime win over UNLV. Meeks and Justin Barron then received the award after their performances against NC State. Wax won the award a second time following SU’s victory over Virginia Tech. Oronde Gadsden II received recognition following his performance against Boston College. Washington was first named Offensive Lineman of the Week after his performance against Cal.
