Syracuse midfielder Michael Leo was named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Leo scored a career-high four goals in Syracuse’s 24-5 season-opening win over Jacksonville, all of which came in the first half.
Before Saturday’s contest, the last time Leo spoke to the media was after Syracuse’s 10-8 loss to Denver in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals. He proclaimed the Orange would “be on top next year.” Leo said after the Jacksonville game that the loss to Denver changed the team’s attitude.
Leo’s sharpness was on full display against JU, finishing with a team-high five points alongside Joey Spallina (three goals, two assists). Leo already had one goal while Syracuse was up 7-0 in the second quarter before adding three more as its lead increased to 10-0.
The junior is known for being SU’s premier downhill dodger and being an accurate shooter on the run. He finished as the Orange’s third-leading scorer in 2024 with 28 goals.
