Even with ride-hailing services such as Uber and Lyft on the scene in Syracuse, Centro and Birnie shuttles remain a useful mode of transportation for students — especially freshmen.

Many routes are free, including some to downtown, South Campus and Destiny USA. Though the schedules vary during orientation week, consistent bus schedules for all locations are in place during the fall semester.

Some regular fall bus schedules are available on Syracuse University’s Department of Parking and Transit Services website.

Karen Ryle from SU’s parking and transit services department said Campus Framework construction projects are not expected to interfere with bus travel.

Here is a breakdown of which bus routes operate each day of orientation week 2017, the schedules and the cost of each:

 

Monday, Aug. 21 – Thursday, Aug. 24

Students can use shuttles to travel to downtown Syracuse, Destiny USA and Main and South campuses.

 

Downtown Syracuse: Armory Square and The Warehouse

Take: No. 443 Connective Corridor (schedule No. 1)

Cost: free

First bus: 8:10 a.m. at College Place heading toward The Warehouse

Last bus: 6:10 p.m. at College Place heading toward The Warehouse

Stops along this route: Archbold Gymnasium, Henry and Van Buren streets, Syracuse Stage/SU Drama Complex, Center of Excellence

 

Destiny USA

Take: No. 240 Nob Hill

Cost: free, but a student ID is required to board

First bus: 6:00 a.m. at College Place heading toward Destiny USA

Last bus: 11:25 p.m. at College Place heading toward Destiny USA

Stops along this route: State University of New York Upstate Medical Hospital, Centro Transit Hub, John H. Mulroy Civic Center

 

South Campus

Take: No. 44 Manley (schedule No. 4)

Cost: free

First bus: 6:55 a.m. at College Place heading to South Campus

Last bus: 2:50 a.m. at College Place heading to South Campus

Stops along this route: Skytop Offices Note: Some of the trips on this schedule operate as the No. 344 South Campus route, which include South Campus apartments.

Cost: free

First bus: 7:50 a.m. at College Place heading toward South Campus

Main Campus

Cost: free, but requires a student ID to board

Last bus:  5:30 p.m. at Irving Avenue Garage heading toward 400 Ostrom Ave.

Stops along this route: Irving Avenue Garage, Fine Lot, Henry and Van Buren streets, Eggers Hall, 400 Ostrom Ave.

 

Friday, Aug. 25

Friday and Saturday are good days to go shopping or see a movie at Destiny USA because Centro offers a free, direct shuttle service there. There are also routes for downtown Syracuse, and South and Main campuses on Friday, Aug. 25.

 

Destiny USA

Take: No. 45 Destiny

Cost: free, but only available on weekends

First bus: 6:00 p.m. at College Place heading toward Destiny USA

Last Bus: 11:30 p.m. at College place heading toward Destiny USA

Stops along this route: Archbold Gymnasium, Sadler Hall and Brewster, Boland and Brockway Complex
