After four consecutive losses, No. 19 Syracuse (4-4, 0-2 Atlantic Coast) fell nine spots in the Oracle/ITA National Team Rankings. The Orange previously had reached their highest ranking in program history at No. 10 just two weeks ago. They started the season ranked No. 24.
Syracuse started its slide at home on Feb. 1 when then-No. 19 Virginia defeated the Orange, 4-3. SU lost by the same score to unranked Boston College on the road two days later. This past weekend, the Orange were in Seattle for ITA National Women’s Team Indoor Championship where they faced two top-16 teams. Syracuse lost to No. 7 Pepperdine in the opening round 4-3 before falling to No. 16 Ohio State on Sunday in a consolation match loss.
A key struggle for SU has been in doubles, where the Orange have not won a point in five-straight matches. In singles play, Guzal Yusupova has been the strongest over this four-game stretch with a 3-1 record. No. 48 Gabriela Knutson, No. 67 Miranda Ramirez and Sofya Golubovskaya are all 2-2. After winning the clinching point in SU’s last two wins, Dina Hegab has struggled and is 0-4.
Syracuse will try to break its losing streak this week against Colorado (4-3) at home Friday at 3 p.m. followed by Harvard (6-3) Sunday at 11 a.m.
