Syracuse University will hold a moment of silence at the Syracuse-Duke men’s basketball game Saturday in memory of Jorge Jimenez, a 51-year-old man who was fatally struck by head coach Jim Boeheim while driving along Interstate 690 on Wednesday night.

Sarah Scalese, SU’s senior associate vice president for communications, confirmed SU will hold the moment of silence before the game. Boeheim will coach the game Saturday.

Boeheim struck and killed Jimenez after the car Jimenez was in lost control and swerved into an I-690 guardrail. The oncoming vehicle, driven by Boeheim, tried to avoid the car but hit Jimenez, who was standing on the side of the road, the Syracuse Police Department said. No alcohol was involved and nobody involved with the crash will be charged with any crime, SPD said.

“I am heartbroken that a member of our community died as the result of last night’s accident,” Boeheim said in a statement Thursday. “Juli (Boeheim) and I extend our deepest sympathies to the Jimenez family.”
